History and Ideology
With new companies springing up everywhere you look, discovering a solid business that has been promoting quality and service for over 7 decades is a refreshing change of pace. In 1944, The HON Company founder, C. Maxwell Stanley, had the foresight to envision an inevitable housing boom. After World War II, he knew that the country would need new homes and new (former G.I.) workers to build them.
When the post-war steel shortage threatened to close the first factory of his new company (originally named “Home-O-Nize”), Stanley cleverly met the challenge by designing products that utilized scrap metal. Their first office product was a recycled aluminum index card file, which marked the beginning of a prestigious office products dynasty. Today headquartered in Muscatine, Iowa, The HON Company is considered the brand of choice for small – medium business office furniture solutions.
With an eye on style and practicality, The HON Company continually demonstrates its empathy for its customer’s needs, through their complete line of office products which include; workstations, desks, seating, tables and storage. Through a nationwide network of hand-picked HON Chair distribution partners, they have served their customers in a manner that emphasizes; innovation, simplification and continuous improvement.

In modern times, you won’t see company executives with royal crowns and scepters (for the most part). However, executives and those who are involved with company policies and decisions need to derive more from their seating than just comfort and affordability. They need to be made aware of the magnitude of their impact on the lives of employees, clients, and the image of their organization. Available features, on selected HON Executive Office Chair models, include:

Every moment that they are seated in a HON Executive/Boardroom series chair, they are reminded of their prominent status within the company. Also take a look at our Executive Office Furniture Chairs.
A Commitment to the Environment
When I was younger, I found it hilarious how my parents and grandparents were so focused on getting the most out of every scrap that they had in the house. I know differently now. If you’ve ever had the privilege of talking to a person who lived through the shortages resulting from the Great Depression and/or World War II, then you’ll know what it means to make the most of everything that you have. This type of outlook fits in well with the need for conserving our precious natural resources, while protecting our environment.
Having begun its business during the shortages of the post-World War II economy, The HON Company founders staunchly refused to waste even an ounce of valuable metal. Their innovation and genius served to create a remarkable product line from materials that others considered to be “scrap”. This “waste-not-want-not” philosophy continued, throughout the years, and was formalized in 1992 with their Rapid Continuous Improvement (RCI) initiative.
As a leading workplace designer/manufacturer, The HON Company extends it commitment beyond serving customer needs and the creation of innovative office furniture selections. It stands for the practical and responsible use of natural resources, when it comes to the manufacture of each HON office chair solution that they offer. Because of their advanced business and resource ethics, The HON Company has earned recognition that includes:
• 2013 Industry of the Year award for HON's Cedartown manufacturing facility
• Grand Prize Product Innovations Award, 2012 and 2011
• Fortune magazine’s list of America’s Most Admired Companies in the furniture industry
• Forbes magazine’s list of the 400 Best Big Companies in America
• U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED®-CI Silver certification for its corporate headquarters
• IndustryWeek magazine’s 50 best manufacturing companies and 10 best manufacturing facilities in North America
All in all, The HON Company has distinguished itself in many different areas that pertain to the design and sale of Office Chairs (and other office furniture selections). It’s not that often when you can rest assured that the obvious design superiority and economic value of your new Office Chairs come complete with a rich and prestigious history rooted in preserving our environmental resources. Combine these with our slick line of reception furniture and desk furniture.
